Finca Amanecer
Transforming an Eco-Lodge into an Eco-Village

Finca Amanecer
Finca Amanecer means Sunrise Farms and it has been under cultivation since the Quepoa Indians inhabited the area.  In fact, the dirt road known as "el Paso de los Indios", is a Federal Highway (if you can believe it) because the Indians used this route to reach the central valley.  Finca Amanecer has been operating as a Bed and Breakfast/ Eco-Lodge since December 2002.

Finca Amanecer is in the typical Tico pueblo of Londres and is ideally situated  10 miles EAST of Quepos.  We are half-way between the Pacific beaches of Manuel Antonio National Park and the rainforests of Cerro Nara. Here you’ll enjoy the best of both worlds and discover "The London Bridge" over Rio Naranjo.  It's close enough to visit the tourist attractions, yet  Londres is still undiscovered, and you won’t find it on most maps, (GPS: N09 27.675 W84 04 .163).

Whether you choose to stay for a few days at our Eco-Lodge, or a lifetime at our Sustainable Eco-Village, it is about the experience, not perfection.  It is about co-creating the moment, and the community.  It is about leaving a smaller footprint, living in the flow; in harmony with our neighbors and Mother Earth. It is not about conspicuous consumption, but rather living better, simply.  There are few paid staff here. I am your host, chef, tour desk, plumber and dance instructor. I am an ex-pat from Arizona, living in Costa Rica since 1990 and creating Finca Amanecer since 2002. Welcome to Paradise.  Elena Ross v

Your hostess,   Elena  Ross v                                   Finca Amanecer is the heart and soul of Londres,
Located 150 meters south of the London Bridge

Rio Naranjo, Class III/IV  May to November                                  Rio Naranjo, Christmas to Easter
In Londres  you'll also discover the (other, other) London Bridge, one of the better suspension bridges in Costa Rica.  Rio Naranjo offers  Class III/IV white water rafting May through November.   December through April. offers  exceptional fly fishing with crystal clear water and a lazy river float.

Londres is safe and offers a small town feeling.  You can walk to 2 Mini-supers and 3 different restaurants.  Robin Hood is open on Rio Naranjo with Karaoke on Sunday afternoons and La Casona has just expanded with 3 TVs and 2 pool talbes. There is also a small soda in the center of town and a tienda bazaar.

Many of the adventure tours booked in Quepos actually take place in Londres.  If you are adventurous and plan to run the rapids, zip through the canopy, rappel down waterfalls, ride a horse or ATV to discover the Sky Bridge in the rainforests of Cerro Nara then Londres is the place to be.  "Londres has the best of everything for a "back to nature" getaway & it's close to Manuel Antonio Park".  (Ronda)  Most guide books tell you "Quepos stinks"  literally.  At our hostel, you savor the  fragrance of Ylang-Ylang, el Liro and Night Blooming Jasmine.  Come enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the rainforest in a friendly small town atmosphere as we build our sustainable Eco-Village.

Lots of changes have occurred this year.  We finally (as of May 2005) have an ICE phone sign announcing you have arrived in Londres. The community has begun a new High School in the Community building and the government has bought a piece of land to build the school.  If you have anything at all you'd like to donate to the HS they need CD players for English lessons, pencils and pencil sharpeners.  Obsolete stationary makes for great note paper.  Just about anything you can think of will be greatly appreciated.

Londres will feel like stepping back in time, and our Eco-Villager will be like a scene from Mayberry RFD.  It's a delight to walk to the corner store or take a hike just to enjoy the view.  Won't you be my neighbor?    Elena Ross
